Elliott and I went on the train to Montour to pick up some pumpkins. The weather was beautiful and we had a great time with the Lunns.Elliott is now 19 months old and has plenty of smiles to share.

Mendenhall Glacier

Our trip to Juneau, Alaska was absolutely fabulous! We had a wonderful time with Jeff, Julie, Noah (10) and Seth (8). Everywhere you look in Juneau there is a fabulous view. We had great weather while we were there and enjoyed some type of adventure everyday... sometimes several in a day. The smiles on our faces will surely relay the great time we had!

Elliott definitely had plenty to smile about! He loves the outdoors and found plenty of bugs to look at in the grass. He had a fabulous time digging and throwing sand on the beach too.

West Glacier Hike
Julie and I went on several runs. Absolutely fabulous to have a running partner and great trail runs all throughout the mountains. We also did a run called Only Fools Run at Midnight with Noah and Seth. We had a great time!

The tram goes from downtown Juneau up 1800 feet to Mount Roberts.

Elliott was having a great time watching a paraglider and being on top of the mtn!

Great view looking northwest from ontop of Mount Roberts. You can see the Gasteneau Channel, part of Auke Bay, Mount McGinnis and Stroller Whites (at least I think so...).

The Chilkat Range. Tyson and I went on a wonderful paddle around Benjamin Island and North Island. We saw several bald eagles, sea lions, spouting whales and other birds.

Noah and Seth were terrific older brothers for Elliott and had plenty of fun in the front yard.

Tyson's first King of the trip!

Tyson realed in the HOG... 40 inches long and over 35 pounds. So much bigger than Elliott!

5 more Kings. In total 13 Kings were slain. We came home with a cooler that weighed 78 lbs! Jeff just happens to be the best personal fishing guide we've ever had. And yes, we are hoping for another Alaskan summer trip already!!

Jeff enjoyed his Elliott time. I think Elliott enjoyed his Jeff time too. :) The fourth of July parade in Juneau is no little happening! The parade was 2 hours long!! We had the best seats in the house on El Sombrero's (the best Mexican restaurant) balcony. Both Jeff and Julie have worked at this restaurant in the past and treated us to an amazing meal after hiking the Perseverance Trail.

Fourth of July Festivities include many races. The great part is you get a dollar for participating... and 5 dollars if you win. Seth and I did pretty well ... Seth is wearing the orange sweatshirt in this picture.

Of course the men tried their talents too!

These pictures can only relay an ounce of the fun we had. What a trip! Thanks to the Machakos Family, we had an absolutely great place to stay, perfect guides, great hiking, running, kayaking, fishing, rafting, playing and eating buddies the whole trip! Elliott had been telling us he's missing all of you!

" I thought my parents were suppose to protect me from bears!" Right after this photo was taken, Elliott leaned over and hugged the bear. :)

For mom's 30th birthday we went hiking up a mountain out of Garden Valley. We actually ended up on a snowmobile trail. There was definitely plenty of snow and ice.

Elliott's first birthday was a fun celebration. Elliott continues to be a great companion, conversationalist, jokester, sleeper, eater and playmate. As parents, we have truly enjoyed him as he continues to grow and explore his personality more each day. We are so grateful for who he is and what he brings to life.

Elliott is 9 months old now! He's a great eater, sleeper and outdoor companion. He's happy to go just about anywhere. He's a smiler!

We put up the Christmas tree the week after Thanksgiving. Elliott turned 8 months old on this day. He's a delight to be around and has taking a liking to rice cereal, avocado, banana, chicken, beef, oatmeal, squash, sweet potato, lentils, apples, spinach, and most anything that we've tried. Elliott has been moving around plenty and can get to most anywhere but does not crawl yet.

The bassinette on the airplane was great! Elliott slept plenty! He was a champion on the way there and on the way back. He adjusted to sleeping through the night faster than his mom both ways of travel. :)

Elliott slept in this tent while we traveled. It's less than 5 lbs, mosquito proof, small enough to be a carry on and if need be can fit an adult too!

Raffles Hotel- one of the great landmarks in Singapore. There is a very nice open air courtyard/bar in the middle of this building. Raffles had the hope/plan for Singapore to be the biggest port in the world.

The Singapore Zoo is fabulous. One of the best exhibits was the Orangutans.

Elliott's first swim took place at the pool of Tagjung Sari where we were staying in Sanur, Bali.

This is our room at Tadjung Sari. This hotel was established in the 1940s.

Elliott's first site of the Indian Ocean.

This is the view from our stay in Sideman. The drive to Sideman from Ubud through Muncan is the most scenic in Bali for view of the rice terraces and little towns. We woke up the next morning with the clouds parted so we could see G Agung (3142m).

We took a Balinese cooking class at Casa Luna Cooking School. A great time!

The Balinese LOVE children. Elliott seemed to enjoy being held by them wherever we went.

Sari Organik was a restaurant out in the middle of a rice field. Great food! In Bali, whenever we sat down for a meal, the waitress would take Elliott and hold him while we ate. They always wanted to entertain him.

This is the hike along Campuan Ridge. In the middle of the photo you can see the roof of our hotel. We hiked for 1.5 hours, got some cold coffee drinks and put our feet in the pool at Klub Kokus and then we hiked another hour. Once we got tired, I flagged down the next car and they took us back to Ubud. A great day.

Monkey Forest. There were monkeys EVERYWHERE. Thank goodness none of them decided to jump on us. :)

This was the view from our hotel window in Ubud. The process of harvesting rice fields begins with cutting the stalk, then pounding it against a board and then sifting it (far left).

Our hotel served us banana pancakes for breakfast- they were delicious!

These photos was taken at the Amandari Resort. Known to be the nicest resort in Bali, near Ubud. We had a great lunch, then relaxed in this gazebo. The resort overlooks a large ravine and has a large pool that flows off the horizon (looks like it creates a waterfall into the ravine). Each room has it's own private swimming pool and they do a thorough bomb check on all cars that enter the resort. The nice resorts in Bali are very well maintained and there is not a speck of trash. Overall, Bali reminded us of Australia's Mexico. There are plenty of dogs wandering the streets, warm weather and good priced food. Although I'd rather go to Bali since I think the food is better and it seems to have a much more distinct culture and heritage that the Balinese take pride in.

Jessica and Travis Custer are currently living in Singapore. I (Janelle) went to high school and college with the Custer's and was so excited to visit them. They have been fabulous hosts! Their blog site is http://www.tjsing.blogspot.com/ They have great photos from all over Southeast Asia.

These leaves seemed to be the perfect size for a hammock for Elliott.

Here are some photos of Elliott in Singapore. We've had a fabulous time. We boarded the plane October 30th and landed in Singapore November 1st. Elliott literally missed his first Halloween. The plane ride was 3 hours to LA and then another 16 hours to Singapore. Total travel time was 24 hours. Elliott was a champion- he slept, smiled, slept some more, and decided to like everyone that wanted to interact with him on the plane. He adapted to Singapore time faster than his parents. He seemed to adjust to the heat and humidity faster too. We flew to Bali for a week. We enjoyed hiking, resting, visiting the good restaurants and spending time connecting with Elliott.

Elliott is 4 months old! He smiles plenty and sleeps at least 11 hours every night. He is a real trooper when it comes to hiking. He's definitely a joy to be around and makes our life more meaningful and memorable as each day passes. Elliott's average day consists of a morning hike or sitting outside while mom reads the paper or a book, 2 hours at the YMCA so mom can work out (usually he naps), run an errand or two, afternoon social time with cousin Clyde and Aunt Laura, some massage and reading time (maybe a bath) and then plenty of relaxing time with Dad when he gets home from work. Elliott really likes to smile, stick out his tongue, stand on his feet if you hold him up and be outdoors, if it's not too hot!
